Sunday 25th February 2024

MARCH- Aotea Square from 2.00pm

PARTY - Takutai Square from 4.30pm

Full Schedule

In the tradition of Queer protest and the role of dance floors in the history of Queer activism, The Pride March and Pride Party has formed the high point of Auckland Pride since 2018.

We’re back again this year, so come with us on a journey to reclamation, power & queer joy!

You'll be gathering from 2pm at Aotea Square, formalities and all the fun things from 3pm with the march beginning at 3:30pm.

The March ends and your party begins at 4:30pm Takutai Square, Britomart filled with food stalls, activites, DJs from Tāmaki Makaurau; Brown Boy Magik. Vercetti & Blush.Mp3 and headlined by the force that is, PATI AF.

ACCESS INFORMATION

Auckland Pride Festival welcomes ALL Rainbow + Takatāpui whānau to join our celebrations and we want to ensure everyone has a safe, comfortable, empowering experience. We know this unfortunately hasn’t always been the case for our disabled communities especially and we are working to accommodate for a wide range of access needs. Due to the busy crowds + loud sounds, we understand that the March + Party can both lead to sensory overload in different ways. Below you’ll find detailed accessibility information with more updates to come - watch this space and contact our Co-Director Julia Croft [email protected] if you have any questions!

AT BOTH MARCH + PARTY

If you need any help or have questions, ask a volunteer. They are identifiable by their pink Auckland Pride t-shirts and lanyards.

If there’s an extreme weather event- check out our website + social media for updates. We’ll be going ahead in light rain.

Please be aware there will be photography and videography at these events- both professionals employed by Auckland Pride (select photos/videos will be shared on our social media) and attendees recording for their private use. By attending, you acknowledge that you may be recorded.

MARCH 2PM | AOTEA CENTRE

Wheelchair + gender neutral toilets in Aotea Centre

We encourage you to wear masks to protect our communities. Auckland Pride volunteers will be walking around to hand out spare masks earplugs, sunblock at the March gathering

There will be an NZSL interpreter for the speeches preceding the March

Walk with a friend or you can always walk with the volunteers :)

RainbowYouth will invite anyone who needs to walk at a slower speed (eg mobility needs and/or blind + low vision whānau) to the front and have them set the pace

Drop-off location for disability access for the March: Auckland Town Hall or at the top of Basement

Theatre- short distance travel to Aotea Square

If you are feeling overwhelmed and need to step out and spend time in a quiet space- we recommend these public quieter spaces along the March route: Auckland Art gallery, Auckland City Library + Queen’s Wharf

Please don’t engage with any counter protestors- if you’re concerned, tell a volunteer.

Auckland Pride stand with our Palestinian whānau and we call for an immediate + permanent ceasefire and a free Palestine. We encourage everyone who is able to show up for Palestine rallies, injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

This March is by + for rainbow communities and we encourage you to advocate for causes/issues that are important to you

PARTY 4:30PM | TAKUTAI SQUARE, BRITOMART

Wheelchair accessible portaloos will be available in Takutai Square

Drop-off location for disability access for the Party: Galway and Tyler Street will be closed so you won’t be able to get dropped down these streets. Instead, you can get dropped off on Britomart Place and enter the party through this way. This is the best and closest place for you to get dropped off to the party.

Free sunblock and water bottle refresh station available

Every year, we love seeing your creative and colourful signs with powerful + expressive messages.

We respect the care + artistry put into these and so this year we will have a temporary mini exhibition for your signs in Takutai Square. Once you arrive at the Party after the March, you can give your sign to our volunteers to put on display for everyone to enjoy while you dance the night away!

Quiet/relaxed space- Halfway through the Atrium there will be a designated area for you to chill out, away from the crowds + noise. There will be beanbags and mats in the centre of the walkway with signage, easy for you to identify.

AFTERPARTY

There will be ticketed afterparty, DOLLHOUSE VOL.5 at Neck of the Woods from 10pm. Free transport will be available from 21:30 from Britomart Customs Street East, Stop 1323 Commerce Street.

DOLLHOUSE IS A COLLECTIVE / CLUB NIGHT COMPRISED OF TAMAKI MAKAURAU DJ’S BLUSH.MP3, LEFT HAND LOZ, AND VERCETTI, WITH A FOCUS ON CELEBRATING THE QTBIPOC COMMUNITY BY WAY OF GLOBAL CLUB MUSIC.
